Current Status

Fontenelle Reservoir is currently at elevation 6500 ft (87% full) and releases are approximately 1,100 cfs. Releases will decrease to 1,000 cfs on August 17, 2016 and are anticipated to decreased to base flow levels of approximately 960 cfs sometime in September, subject to hydrology. The July final forecast decreased from the June midmonth volume of 710,000 acre-feet (98 percent of average) to 650,000 acre-feet (90 percent of average).  Fontenelle will be operated to accommodate the decreasing forecast volume. Releases are anticipated to remain at this level through July and then decrease.

Inflows for the month of July totaled 80,000 acre-feet (af), or 45 percent of average. The Colorado Basin River Forecast Center has forecasted spring inflows that are much below average.  August, September and October forecasted inflow volumes amount to 44,000 af (58 percent of average), 36,000 af (78 percent of average), and 40,000 af (82 percent of average), respectively.

Working Group Meetings

The next Fontenelle Working Group meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., August 23, 2016. The meeting will be held at the Joint Powers Water Board offices in Green River, Wyoming. The Fontenelle Working Group is an open public forum for information exchange between Reclamation and other parties associated with the operation of Fontenelle Reservoir.

The fall Fontenelle Working Group meeting was held on August 26, 2015 at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department in Green River, Wyoming (351 W. Astle Avenue). Minutes from the meeting are currently being drafted and will be posted on the Working Group webpages.
